Fireball World Championships 2008 - Report from Thailand!
Matt Mee and Richard Wagstaff (UK) have won the 2008 Fireball World Championships at the Royal Veruna Yacht Club, Pattaya, Thailand. The ten race series was sailed in perfect conditions - twelve to eighteen knots of breeze with challenging waves at times. Best of the Irish were Noel Butler/Seamus Moore in 15th place overall. The duo showed excellent consistency and were always near the front, with upwind speed better thann downwind where they found it hard to hold off the cream of the opposition. Seven Irish teams participated in the ten race series but suffered setbacks ranging from black flags, breakages and minor injuries. All however regarded the event as a fantastic learning experience in absolutely ideal sailing conditions.
