Ireland Frostbite lives up to it's name

The gales of the last two Frostbite Sundays disappeared towards the end of last week which meant that racing was a distinct possibility as the weekend arrived. And so it turned out that 11 Fireballs were able to get on the water for the first time in three weeks. The winds however, were replaced by continuous rain, as predicted on the BBC forecast the night before, a blanket of rain coming in on Saturday night and covering the country throughout Sunday. Tiger Trophy won by Fireball

Ian Dobson and Sam Brearey have sailed their Fireball to victory at a windy John Merricks Tiger Trophy. A fourth place in Sunday's no-discard pursuit race was good enough to give the Fireball sailors victory over a fleet of 210 boats in the fifth event of the GJW Direct SailJuice Winter Series. Starcross Steamer 2013

With the rest of the country shivering in temperatures of well under zero and deep snow, the little snow that lay at Starcross had disappeared and with the temperature hovering around the plus side of zero it was decided to go ahead with the 21st Starcross Steamer. It is said that you have to be a little mad to go sailing in the winter in the UK, but 76 boats proved that we Brits are up for a challenge no matter how extreme the conditions. Read More >
