Another close race at Largs

26 October 2012

The second race of the Largs Bay SC season got underway on Saturday with a shifty 10-12 knots south-westerly breeze providing close racing between the six boats.

Magic Moose (David and Michael Arnold) led around the first lap of the triangle-loop-triangle course, with Mini Mee (Matthew Carter and Matthew Neale) and Raging Ball (Daryl Carter and Damien Chambers) hot on their heels in third. The fleet had split in two by this stage, with two smaller fleets of three boats.

The two Matthews in Mini Mee jumped into first place on the second upwind leg, showing good speed in the increased wind. A close tussle between the top three followed, with Mini Mee extending their lead on the final beat to take a comfortable win. Mini Mee was followed by Magic Moose in second, with Raging Ball nearly slipping through for second, but eventually finishing third.

The fleet will now prepare for the first of the Club Championship next week, with the fleet's mix of youth and experience looking to knock Mini Mee out of top spot on the Championship podium.
