West Australian States in the Swan

15 February 2013

Four heats of the Western Australian State Championships were sailed over the week end of 9th & 10th February in conjunction with a Mini Series held at Royal Perth Yacht Club.

We were fortunate to have programmed morning races as the heat wave conditions (40 degrees max both days) meant very little wind both afternoons.

Great racing up till early afternoon with 15kt winds lightening off to 6kts.

This was a great opportunity to show off the Fireball to a large group of junior sailors also competing at the Mini Series in various classes.

Kevin Luff won heat 4 by one boat length from Gordon Lucas and had a commanding lead in heat 2 when the time limit of only 60 minutes ran out.

Kevin was only 200 m from the finish line.

Jon Emerson was unlucky not to win two heats as he was comfortably leading in both.

Gordon Lucas was handed both of these heats at Jon's expense.

Lance Rock, Kevin Luff, Jon Emerson and Gordon Lucas all demonstrated boat speed improvement following their participation in the Port Lincoln Nationals.

Two more heats are scheduled for next week end in Mandurah where the 2012 Worlds were hosted.

We look forward to another Fireball promotion week end.
