Dear Fireball Sailors
Compliments of the new season to you all, may 2014 be all you wish it to be with lots of Fireball sailing.
Fireball Nationals 2014
Firstly we need to urgently get feedback from you regarding your choice of venue for the Fireball Nationals. We are seriously considering Voelvlei (Vogelvlei Yacht Club) as a venue, possibly from the 1 to 4 May 2014 (as discussed at the AGM held at the 2013 Nationals held at Milnerton Aquatic club). We are also willing to consider the Western Province Champs at False Bay Yacht Club in Simonstown from 18 to 21 April 2014 as a possible alternative. Please could you let us know via e-mail what would be your choice of venue, motivating your decision. E-mails to be sent to acgray@iafrica.com
We need a response by Monday 27 January 2014.
It is vital that we hear from you because we do need to know if a minimum of 13 boats can attend, or we will be unable to hold a Fireball Nationals.
ZVYC Dinghy Boat Show
Our apologies to our members that we were unable to arrange a fireball to have on show for this worthy event, that was a great pity. The reality is that most of the suitable show boats are up at George Lakes Yacht club and it would have been a great expense to transport them down to Cape Town. I did request assistance from our Fireball members on the Fireball Facebook page but sadly, we received no response.
Western Cape Concerns
The Fireball Class is concerned about the lack of participation of its members at the main WC racing events and we would like to have feedback from its members as to why this has been a problem or what we can do to help resolve this? Please mail me - acgray@iafrica.com

Western Cape Racing Dates
Fireball sailors please diarise the following important regatta dates & let us know if you are able to attend or not. If we know you are attending it will be easy to motivate others to participate. E-mail to acgray@iafrica.com
25 to 26 January 2014 - Port Owen River Race at Veldrift (West Coast):
A great fun event to be held this weekend. Tune up race at 11h00am & the first Main race to start at 14h00 on Saturday. Ryan Avery is keen to participate if other Fireballs will be attending. Please let us know if you are going?

7 to 9 February 2014 - Southern Charter Grand Slam at Hermanus Yacht Club
We have 4 sailors who are attending this event, but please can we add to these numbers to make it worthwhile for the participating members. Please go to www.sasgrandslam.co.za for the entry form etc
18 to 21 April 2014 - Southern Charter WC Dinghy & Multihull Grand Slam Champs

Fireball Association Boat available for loan
Please keep in mind that we still have the Fireball Association Boat available for loan for any WC events. This boat came 3rd in the 2012 Nationals and 4th place in the 2013 Nationals. It will be loaned out on a first come, first serve basis, so please let us know if you need it E-mail: acgray@iafrica.com
Future World Championships
2014 Fireball Worlds Championships - 22 March to 4 April 2014-01-23
To be held at Pattaya, Thailand. Our Chairman, David Laing and Mark Dee (GLYC) will be attending this event.
David said: " I am chartering an Australian winder 15072 which is going in the Australian container which leaves for Thailand on 15 Feb. Pre Worlds is 24 - 29 March and Worlds 30 March - 4 April. The event is being held in Pattaya which is 2 hours South of Bangkok on the coast at Royal Varuna Yacht Club. At present we don't have final entrants but do know there are full containers from Britain, Europe and Australia, with Japan coming in numbers together with USA and Canada."

2015 Fireball World Championships - 17 to 28 August 2015
This will be held at Clwb Hwylio Pwllheli in Pwllheli, Wales, UK. Our ex SA Fireball Champ, Will Moody will be attending this event.
