Australian Container Packed for Thailand

10 February 2014

12 BOATS IN ONE CONTAINER!!!!

The Aussies are coming in force with 12 boats tightly packed in their container for the Thailand world championships.

Thanks to an ingenious framing system developed by Ben Schulz, 12 Fireballs were loaded into a 40 foot container.

By allowing 12 boats to fit into one container it will make boat transport more affordable for both international container shipping and also for transporting multiple boats across the country.

The frames can be used to transport boats on flatbed trucks, large trailers or in containers.

Each pod consists of two custom boat trolleys and four removable joiner pieces.

Boats can be wheeled in from sailing, derigged and then joined with their partner ready for packing in the box.

Six pods fit in a container in two rows. The pods bolt together with two on their sides and one above.

Once at the event the frames easily separate to form beach trolleys.

A mast rack has been made so masts can quickly and safely be secured.

The most appealing part of the design is that there are no ropes needed to secure the load.

Ease of loading and unloading will be important in the heat and humidity of Thailand.
