IFAV State Titles 2019-20

Huge thanks to Warrnambool Yacht Club who stepped in at short notice to enable our Western Region State Championship to proceed.

Congratulations to Heather and Chris Payne, the International Fireball Association of Victoria State Champions for 2019/20. Heather and Chris won all five heats in "Not Your Average Rock Stars" sailed at Warnambool Yacht Club over this weekend.

Phil Peverell and Bruce Shand placed second in "The Grey Ghost". After results scrutiny, Steve Howden (dropping in to try fireballs from 505s) and Bryce Reid placed third in a tightly contested 

Three races were sailed on day 1 in a cool 15-20 Knot Southerly with a 1 to 2 metre swell and a short chop from many directions. It was rugged sailing and even tougher for race management crews. Heat 4 was sailed on day 2 in a light North Easterly that came and went and moved around a bit. Local hot shots Don Allan and Jasmine Shears led at the 1st mark, but were overtaken on the down wind legs. After a short postponement the second race of day 2 was sailed in 5 - 8 knots Southerly with a light swell rolling through. IFAV President Glenn Peverell and Bruno Lanati led at mark 1, but let Heather and Chris slip through down wind. Plenty of variation across the weekend and lots of place swapping through out the fleet in tight racing in the lighter conditions of day 2.
