Passing of Walter Davy

20 March 2018

It is with deep regret that Fireball International advises you of the passing of former Rear Commodore Africa, Walter Davy on Tuesday 27th February in Johannesburg. He passed away in his sleep. Walter was sailing Fireballs as far back as the seventies and was a highly regarded helmsman in Fireball and Sprog(an SA design) circles, winning Springbok Colours for his achievements in the Fireball Class and served the South African Fireball community as Class Chairman for a number of years. A very competitive sailor, he had a keen sense of humour and was very popular among his peers. I first met him in 1982 and enjoyed a lifelong friendship with him. He was instrumental in the planning and organising of the 1994 Worlds in Durban and also served the wider international community as Rear Commodore Africa before handing over that mantle to Cormac Bradley.

His wife pre-deceased him a couple of years ago and he is survived by two daughters and a son, all married with children.
