2020 Worlds update

7 October 2019

Schedule

Note that we are making the pre-worlds a 2 day event, 6th&7th August. We believe this will work best for the majority especially UK boats travelling shortly after their Nationals... and for anyone who is a bit stretched with work or family commitments! So early measurement Weds 5th August; racing pre-worlds Thursday and Friday 6th&7th, measurement for the Worlds on Saturday 8th and Worlds from Sunday 9th until Friday 14th with the Wednesday planned as the lay day...

Accommodation and travel logistics - updates @ #Howth2020

Howth Yacht Club and the Irish Fireball Association are working to help competitors find accommodation in the general area. Suttonians Rugby Football Club is allowing camper vans and tents at their premises for a nominal amount, perhaps something like 10 euros per night. The venue is about 3km from the sailing club and has a DART (light rail) station directly across the road. They have plenty of capacity. It is one stop and about 3 minutes to Howth. Campers will have access to toilets and showers and possibly even a bar if numbers there are good!. We expect many Irish sailors will stay in Suttonians for the event.

The club will have a system to place some sailors in member's homes on an Airbnb type basis. We expect that will cost in the region of 30 euros per night per person. There will be limited space for camper vans in HYC itself but the exact amount depends on space and numbers attending our event.

Sailors seeking Airbnb from the Airbnb website should keep looking as new places do crop up from time to time. Note that any Airbnb near a Dart stop between Howth and Dublin city centre is a reasonable option though obviously the closer you can find to Howth itself the better.

For getting around Howth and the general area bikes are ideal. The dedicated bike lane route from Dublin city centre to Howth is flat, though Howth itself is hilly. The Dart service is quick, regular and efficient and runs into the city centre and right out to Greystones on the opposite side of Dublin Bay. There is also a bus service running from the city centre to Howth.

We are in discussions with Irish Ferries and expect a discount of at least 10 percent on ferry routes from UK to Ireland and from Cherbourg to Dublin.
