Notice of Race


 The Regatta is organized by the Fireball class in conjunction with the
Milnerton Aquatic club under the auspices of South African Sailing (SAS).

1 RULES
1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of
Sailing (RRS) 2013 - 2016.
1.2 The South African Sailing Requirements for National Championships
will apply.
1.3 Boats participating in this regatta shall conform to the Equipment Rules of
Sailing (ERS) 2013 - 2016, the Class Rules of the Fireball class, this
Notice of Race, and the Sailing Instructions.

2 ADVERTISING
Advertising is permitted subject to the limitations of ISAF Regulation 20.
Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the
organising authority

3 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
3.1 In accordance with the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) Regulation 19
(Eligibility Code), all competitors (Helmspersons and all other crew) shall be
members in good standing of a Yacht Club affiliated to and in good standing
with South African Sailing or their Member National Authority in the case of
non-South Africans. The Yacht Club name and membership details shall be
stated on the entry form or crew list. Current valid South African Sailing
Membership Cards or similar proof of MNA Membership in cases of non-South
Africans shall be presented at Registration.
3.2 The regatta is open to all boats of the above listed class(s).
3.3 Eligible boats may enter by completing the attached form and sending it,

3.4 In cases of electronic or faxed entry, confirmation of payment as outlined in
3.3 above shall clearly bear the following reference number Fireball (sail
number) and be faxed or e-mailed, together with the Entry, to the Regatta
Secretary.
3.5 Late entries will be accepted under the following conditions:

4 FEES
4.1 Required fees are as follows:
Fee R 300
4.2 Other Fees:
All Entry Fees and Class subscriptions shall be paid prior to the close of
Registration. Failure to meet this requirement will result in the affected yacht
being recorded as Did Not Compete until such time as the required payment/s
is/are made. This changes rule A11 (DNC)

5 SCHEDULE
5.1 Registration:
Day and date 14/06/13 From 16h00 To 18h00
15/06/13 From 08h00 to 10h00
5.2 Measurement and inspection:
Day and date 15/06/13 From 08h00 To 10h00
5.3 Dates of racing:
Date
15/06/13 Warning signal for the first race of the day at 11h00
16/06/13 Warning signal for the first race of the day at 10h00
17/06/13 Warning signal for the first race of the day at 10h00
5.4 Number of races:
A minimum of 6 races and a maximum of 12 races are scheduled.
5.5 No warning signal will be made after 15h00 on the last day of racing,
17/06/13.

6 MEASUREMENTS
Each boat shall produce a valid measurement / rating certificate. In addition
spot measurements may be taken at any stage during the regatta.

7 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing Instructions will be available from the Regatta Secretary on
completion of registration formalities.

8 VENUE
Racing will take place at MAC Rietvlei

9 THE COURSES
The courses to be sailed will be Windward-Leeward-Triangle Course and
Windward Leeward course

10 PENALTY SYSTEM
Rule 44.1 will apply.

11 SCORING
11.1 Low Point System of Appendix A4 will apply.
11.2 Four races are required to be completed to constitute a series.
11.3 (a) When fewer than 5 races have been completed, a boat's series score
will be the total of her race scores.
(b) When from 5 to 9 races have been completed, a boat's series score
will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
(c) When 10 or more races have been completed, a boat's series score will
be the total of her races excluding her two worst scores.

12 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS
In order to qualify as a National Class Championship the following criteria
shall be satisfied:
* A minimum of ten valid entries have been received no later than the
closing time for entries, no later than one hour before the scheduled
starting time of the first race
* At least ten finishers in any two races of the series.
* At least four races completed.

13 SAFETY
13.1 Yachts shall comply with their class buoyancy and safety requirements.
13.2 All competitors shall wear a personal buoyancy aid capable of supporting a 5
kg steel weight at all times while afloat in a yacht
13.3 Wet or dry suits do not constitute adequate buoyancy!

14 PRIZES
Prizes will be given as follows:
SAS Medals will be awarded in accordance with the Requirements for
National Championships, as follows:
10 - 14 boats Gold
15 - 19 boats Gold & Silver
20 or more boats Gold, Silver and Bronze
Class Prizes will be awarded as follows:
First Narrow hull

15 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4,
Decision to Race. Neither the Organising Authority nor its officials or other
persons associated with the organisation of the event will accept any liability
for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with
or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

16 INSURANCE
Each participating boat is encouraged to carry sufficient valid third-party
liability insurance to cover any liability arising during the event.
